Yes. Every EcoMed disposable patient curtain is manufactured to meet flame retardant standards, including BS 5867 Part 2 Type C 2008, NFPA 701:2023, AS 2755.2:1985(R2013), AS/NZ 1530.3:1999 and EN13772/EN13773 Class 1. Every batch of curtains is tested, and test reports are available on request.

Are EcoMed disposable curtains cheaper than conventional curtains?

Yes, they are significantly cheaper than conventional hospital curtains. There are no laundering costs, no large upfront investment in curtain purchases, and no disruption to the ward when curtains are changed.

Can we use our existing curtain tracks?

Yes. EcoMed disposable curtains are designed to install directly onto existing curtain tracks in almost every case, with no need to modify the track or incur additional costs, and can be used interchangeably with conventional curtains at any time.

Do EcoMed disposable curtains have antimicrobial properties?

Yes. The curtains are built with Ultra-Fresh antimicrobial protection, which is registered with the EPA and FDA and is incorporated into the structure during manufacturing. It is distributed evenly throughout the curtain and remains effective for the curtain's entire service life. It has been shown to be effective against MRSA, E. coli, VRE, P. aeruginosa, C. difficile and other organisms.

How often should curtains be changed?

Industry standards recommend changing curtains every 6 months, but EcoMed curtains are durable enough to remain in service for up to 3 years. We recommend that each hospital assess its own needs to determine the appropriate replacement frequency.

What colours are available?

10 popular colours are available in stock: Medical Blue, Light Blue, Forest Green, Light Green, Yellow, Cream, Peach, Pink, Lilac, Light Grey, plus a special print pattern for paediatric departments.

Are curtains available in different sizes?

Several sizes are available, covering both width and length. Common widths include 7.5 metres and 6 metres (main panels), 4.5 metres (centre panel), and 3 metres and other sizes for rooms or track layouts with specific requirements. The standard length for tracks suspended from the ceiling is 2 metres. If the track is mounted directly to the ceiling, a mesh top approximately 10-80 cm high can be added to meet fire-safety standards (BS 5867 Part 2 Type C 2008 and NFPA 701, SGS-certified). Custom sizes are also available to fit specific spaces or windows.

How are the curtains labelled?

Each label clearly displays the installation date, flame retardant information, and a reorder code, making inspection and auditing simple.

Are disposable curtains made from environmentally friendly fabric?

Yes. They are made from 100% polypropylene, one of the lowest-impact materials available when compared with all other material types.

How should curtains be disposed of?

The curtains are made from 100% polypropylene and can be fully recycled as non-medical waste, so they can be safely placed in a general waste bin. However, in certain cases under a hospital's risk management plan, such as isolation rooms, they may need to be classified as medical waste and disposed of according to the applicable procedure.

What is Ultra-Fresh and how does it protect against bacteria?

Ultra-Fresh is an antibacterial technology built into the curtain material to inhibit the growth of odour-causing bacteria and help maintain a more hygienic environment.

How does Ultra-Fresh work?

The active protection is incorporated into the polymer during manufacturing and works continuously at the surface of the non-woven fabric throughout its useful life.

How do I know if Ultra-Fresh is safe?

Ultra-Fresh is designed specifically for use in healthcare textiles, and product and test documentation is available on request.

How durable is Ultra-Fresh antibacterial technology?

The curtains are made from polypropylene and can be recycled, provided this is consistent with the facility's waste management procedures and recycling systems are available.

How is the Ultra-Fresh antibacterial additive different from a disinfectant?

Fabric Testing

EcoMed disposable hospital curtains with built-in Microban technology have been tested for antibacterial and antiviral efficacy in accordance with internationally recognised standards ISO 20743 and ISO 18184.

ISO 20743: Determination of antibacterial activity of textile products. Specifies quantitative test methods for evaluating the antibacterial performance of textile products, including non-woven fabric.

ISO 18184: Determination of antiviral activity of textile products. A test method that measures the effectiveness of destroying viruses on textiles, non-woven fabric, and other porous materials against specific virus types.

3-Year Performance Testing

The antimicrobial performance of EcoMed curtains that had been in use for 3 years was tested. The results proved that the curtains could still eliminate bacteria at a rate of up to 99.99%.
